Copyrigh new law

The Congreso de los Diputados (The House of Commons), has passed a new copyright law on June 22th of 2006. Its aim is to transpose to the Spanish legislation the content of the European guideline about the Information Society. Finally, and after the controversy gathered round it, the new law includes a tax for each private copy to a digital formats, hard discs, and ADSL lines will be regulated by another rules. The Culture Department, will set, each two years, the list of the digital supports which are subject to tax and the amount of money to pay for each copy. About the right to quote, we have to say that the law recognize the right for the “periodical compilations as reviews or press journals".

Blogs for library collection development

Weblogs are being an excellent tool to spread information about monographies. A good example is La tormenta en un vaso, where a book is commented daily. The group Banda aparte, formed by about half hundred people related to Literature: authors, librarians, etc, is in charge of the weblog, where they are showed good-quality and useful reviews, aimed to be tools for the selection of books in the libraries. Weblogs technology has been chosen by the Universidad de Murcia, (Murcia University), as its publications service has started the weblog Tombuctú, from where they spread their publishing news.

Bookshop map

In the seventh of June, in the Feria Internacional del Libro de Madrid, (International book fair in Madrid), has been showed the Mapa de Librerías 2005, (2005 Bookshop Map), developed by the Confederación Española de Gremios y Asociaciones de Libreros (CEGAL), (Spanish Confederation of Trades and Associations of booksellers), with the help from the Dirección General del Libro, Archivos y Bibliotecas del Ministerio de Cultura, (General Departament of Books, Archives and Libraries of the Culture Department). It is an updating of the map of spanish bookshops for 1999. The aims of the study are the analysis of the economic evolution of the sector and the updating of the bookshops census. They are given guidelines about management and bussiness strategy. The support for the spanish book sector has been developed since 1998 inside the Observatorio de la Librería, (Bookshops Observatory), aimed at the improvement and the innovation of the books process.

Sign Library

The Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes (Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library), the most important virtual library in Spain and one of the most internationally known ones, has a section for users with hearing problems. The Biblioteca de Signos (The Sign Library ) is a collection of texts with videos in which an interpreter shows the work in the Spanish Sign Language (LSE). The catalogue inludes fiction books and also books for the LSE learning, LSE dictionaries, linguistc information and pedagogical resources.
