Information Professional profile

Information and Documentation professionals from the Basques Country, called for the Grupo de Trabajo del Perfil Profesional (working group of the professional profile), of ALDEE, have got together in September 21st,2006 in the conference “The profession in archives, libraries and information centres, in wich they were debated the actions that the Basque infromation workers should do in order to develope the prefession in that autonomous region. The responsible for the opening communication was Jesús Gómez, author of several texts about librarianship. He discoursed upon the current professional profile. The closing lecture was in charge of José Antonio Merlo Vega, who talked about the professionals abilities; he also ofered the state of the matter of the profession in Spain, and he took a decalogue about the features that establish a good professional.

Professional ethics code

The Collegi Oficial de Bibliotecaris-Documentalistes de Catalunya, (COBDC) has edited its Código deontológico (Professional ethics code), in which they are gathered several ethic guidelines for librarians, and information professionals. In the code, they are considered the general pronciples, the services for users, the documentary holdings, the relations among colleagues, the management of the centers, etc. The COBDC would like to do a periodic update of the document, that has been edited in Catalan, Spanish and English. Moreover, that professional group has edited a leaflet called Bibliotecarios-Documentalistas: qué hacer y qué ofrecer a las organizaciones del siglo XXI, (Librarians and Information professionals: what to do and what to give to the 21st Century Organizations.

Fights for Public Libraries in Spain

The publishing house Almud, with the help from Anabad and the Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez, has edited the book Combates por la biblioteca pública en España (Fights for public libraries in Spain), where there are gathered several opinions and professional articles written by Juan Sánchez Sánchez, who has led the Servicio Regional del Libro,Archivos y Bibliotecas of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha for many years. The book is a compendium of contributions, researches and conferences from 1978 to now, including the farewell words that he said in the tribute done in Februay 11th, in Toledo, as a culmination of his labour in the Servicio Regional del Libro. The first chapter : ”Politics, society and libraries”, talks about the link between libraries and cultural policies. In the second one, “Public presence and libraries”, they are compiled opinion articles about culture and libraries. The third one gathers the situation of public libraries in Castilla La-Mancha, and finally, there is an epilogue with his own words and thoughts in order to say good bye as the leader of the Servicio Regional del Libro, Archivos y Bibliotecas.

Comics in public libraries

Public libraries are paying more attention to their comic collections, as it is an attractive, contemporary, and very required holding by users. Some libraries, as the Biblioteca Regional of Murcia, have created their comicteca, as an specific part; it is also in the Biblioteca Municipal of Peñaranda de Bracamonte (Salamanca), where it has been edited a complete reading guide, called La fiesta dibujada, (the drawn party), or the Biblioteca Tecla Sala, from the City Council of Hospitalet (Barcelona), which publishes the bulletin Còmic Tecla, which is a referent for professionals and fans of this genre. The Municipal libraries in La Coruña, have put on line the blog Falamos de Cómics, (talking about comics), where the novelties are reviewed. There are another libraries interested in comics and related documents, that can be found in the website @bysnet, that in the section Comics and libraries are gathering articles about themes, style, trends, etc. The Colegi Oficial de Bibliotecaris-Documentalistes in Catalunya has created the the working group Biblioteca i Còmics, in order to promote wath libraries and users call ninth art.
